self congratulatory

I am surprised this group is the one called 'writers rebellion' and crows about how tired it is of the sycophants in other groups. It seems to be full of almost entirely blank verse and short stories that stick in the brain like spam sushi in the gut, and all the comments are gushing with praise about how the writer shouldn't 'overthink' the piece, and how 'just getting it out there' is what 'writing is all about'. Nary a bit of critique.

I'm about to give up; I had hopes here, because of the hard line the tribe claimed to take. Is there a better place where people who _do_ want to 'overthink'* their writing can get genuine critique -- perhaps from people who use punctuation other than ellipses and carriage returns?

* By 'overthink' I mean 'choose my words carefully, and maybe not do the reader's work for him'. That kind of overthinking.

That's a good idea. Or maybe it's just the kind of thing that doesn't do well w/ tribes. Perhaps it's just one of those things that only works in person.

I'm hesitant to start a new tribe. There are a billion writing tribes, almost all created because _someone_ felt the others were too gushing, and vowing to be full of real critique. I don't want to just do it again. Besides, all the good names are taken.

I figured this would be a good place to find other people who want to review anything but blank verse. Hey, maybe there's a name. "anythingbutblankverse.tribe.net"

I don't know if you know it or not but the other review you gave to Dangeroo. That was about his 3rd ever poem ever. He's stationed in Afganistan and was writing as a way to try to express himself as he deals with the seperation from home and war. With tribe or writers groups you're going to have people coming in for different reasons and at different levels.
Maybe you ought to consider just focusing on getting published instead?

The description of this tribe said it was for critique -- and hard critique at that. I thought, given the relatively rough-knocks description of the tribe, and given the much more gentle descriptions of several others, that I wouldn't _have_ to watch out for people who didn't want critique. I assumed people who didn't want critique would be in one of the other tribes, one that didn't define itself by condemning the softy ways of the other groups!

I'll apologize to dangeroo, and to you; this clearly isn't the tribe I'm looking for.
