I'm almost surprized that I have any balls left to kick these days, but just checked on 'em, and I put on my metal jock-strap, so I suggest that you put on some steel-toes, my friend! Anyway, in posting my "work", I feel that it's necessary to protect it - - although I get incredible pleasure and a lot of "therapy" from writing, I take writing seriously and I put some serious effort into it. I'm continually reviewing, revising, and trying to make my finished product as close to my own ideal for the work as I can. I do all of this first and foremost for myself, to please myself, and to adhere to my personal standards. I'm not trying to be a pretentious asshole - - I just believe that if I take the time to put serious effort into writing, I need to take my writing seriously enough to be protective of it - - whether it gains any "outside success" or not.
